Thank you for engaging in the two week Celebration of Beloved Community in honor of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.! While the MLK Day holiday may be over, we encourage you to further the work Dr. King championed in numerous ways.
Continue family discussions!
Over 2,400 copies of the Life & Teachings of Dr. King booklets were mailed to Shaker Schools families plus social media posts highlighting these topics were shared across the community every day. The digital learning guide can be found Here. It will stay available for you to download and share as often as needed. The book suggestions and online links provided are great ways to continue learning together.
Acts of Kindness!
The Donations Drive was a huge success! Bellefaire, Family Promise, Fostering Hope, and Unity in Community would all like to express their sincere gratitude for the overwhelming generosity of our Shaker community. No matter how big or small, remember Dr. King’s words, “What are you doing for others?”
Call to Action!
The live streamed Celebration with a Cause, a joyous event highlighting many students and local organizations, was viewed nearly 600 times. Though this one day only show has ended, the work to create a more beloved Shaker continues. Consider ways you and your family can make a mark in our community.
Visit the Wishing Tree!
The SHHS Art Club has created a community art project in honor of Dr. King. Add your wish for our Beloved Shaker Heights to a ribbon then tie it around the tree in front of the high school. The Wishing Tree will be up until February 15th.
Keep Learning!
Read The Racial Healing Handbook, by Anneliese A. Singh and recommended by Dr. JeffriAnne Wilder, Shaker Schools Executive Director of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion.
This city-wide focus on Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was supported and organized by countless volunteers. A list of all partners involved can be found at below.
